The Healthcare M&S Opportunity Space

The NCCMMS exists to help bring modeling and simulation (M&S) capabilities proven valuable in non-healthcare markets into the healthcare market space. Think of it as repurposing/reconfiguring technology for a new customer, a new use case, a new industry.

Our clients can be perplexed by trying to figure out where there technology might actually fit into the healthcare industry – an industry four times the size of the U.S. Defense market, and significantly more complex given the breadth and scope of our comprehensive healthcare system.

In order to make sense of all the potential healthcare M&S application areas, I created a Concept Map. Concept maps are diagrams that depict relationships between concepts.

In this case, the concepts are the way that our healthcare system might be organized (my depiction, not necessarily industry accepted). Concepts presented here are also the higher level “end points” where M&S can be leveraged throughout the system.

The Concept Map is hosted at medsimcmaps.org using Cmap software provided by the Florida Institute for Human & Machine Cognition (IMHC) at the University of West Florida.

The Concept Map is a living document; here is a static image of what it looked like on 26 July 2021.
